Dill was a member of the 1960s Los Angeles-based Light and Space movement which was characterized by the choice of alternative materials to create two- and three- dimensional works of art. The group found inspiration in idyllic popular notions associated with Southern California: sun, cars, surf, and sand. Laddie John Dill's works are typically crafted from concrete, glass, sand and metal. His works are in the permanent collections of the MoMA, LA County Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago and the Smithsonian among others.
